Four Days, Many Perspectives: A Nationwide Exchange on AI in Higher Education
How is artificial intelligence changing teaching, learning, and assessment at universities? From the November 23–26 2026 will bring the NeL AI Week Perspectives and practical examples from universities across Germany. Through the network of state-level initiatives for digital higher education, a nationwide exchange is taking shape regarding the opportunities, challenges, and specific applications of AI in higher education.
The four-day online program explores a variety of perspectives: It focuses on the Methodical Use of AI in Courses, in order to AI in Exam Scenarios, to address the question of how AI Skills as a Learning Objective can be taught, as well as to The Use of AI from a Student's Perspective. Academic and practical presentations from various universities highlight specific experiences and approaches, while breakout discussions provide an opportunity for exchange and reflection.
Thuringia is also represented with two entries from the Bauhaus University Weimar represented. On Tuesday, November 24, there will be Dr. Alexander König In the „Beyond Prompting: AI Competence Between Technology, Criticism, and Design“ lightning talk, he will offer insights into what constitutes AI competence beyond the mere use of tools and prompts. His presentation will take place from 11:30 a.m. to 11:45 a.m.
This will be followed in the afternoon by Prof. Jörn Hintzer, also from the Bauhaus University Weimar, with the presentation „AI in Moving Image Education—Between Applied Work and Critical Engagement.“ From 1:45 p.m. to 2:00 p.m., the focus will be on the use of AI in a specific educational context.
The two presentations from Weimar are part of a nationwide program that examines AI in higher education from various disciplinary, pedagogical, and student perspectives. NeL AI-Week thus offers an opportunity to learn about experiences from various universities, gain new insights for one’s own teaching, and exchange ideas on how to integrate AI into academic study and teaching.

As part of the Network of State Initiatives (NeL) and in cooperation with the Foundation for Innovation in Higher Education (StIL), the eTeach Network is involved in the organizational planning of the NeL AI Week.
