Open Model Lab

The fact that AI models from commercial providers from outside Europe collect sensitive data and create profiles in the background runs counter to the scientific demand for transparency, traceability and reproducibility. Open source models offer a decisive advantage here, as they can be operated locally and therefore enable better control over data flows.

The Open Model Lab is an open model that provides insights into architecture, training processes and functionality and can be used didactically.

How does the Open Model Lab work?

In contrast to commercial AI systems that collect and process data, the models here run locally on their own servers in Thuringia, which means that no data processing outside Germany, no profiling, no tracking systems run in parallel. The platform provides access to various open-source AI models that are suitable for the education sector, such as smaller, fast and efficient models that are ideal for use in the classroom. Teachers can use these directly in compliance with data protection regulations to create learning materials, explain complex topics simply, generate flashcards or quizzes or initiate critical discussions about how AI works.
