Learning platforms
Learning management systems are an indispensable resource and daily working tool for teachers at colleges and universities. By integrating digital tools and interactive functions, they offer an efficient way of conveying teaching content and supporting learning processes. In Thuringia, Moodle in particular is an established learning management system at universities. With the Virtual Campus Thuringia (VCT), a state-wide Moodle instance is also available that will simplify cross-university teaching and learning.
We would like to support lecturers across all universities in getting to know the various functions/possibilities of Moodle better and integrating them into their teaching in a didactically meaningful way.

In this project, teachers who use Moodle in a way that is particularly conducive to learning—so-called „power users“—were surveyed. A qualitative online survey was used to gather information about their usage scenarios, training needs, and wishes for the further development of the learning platform. The focus was on how power users specifically use Moodle to support learning. A total of 34 responses were evaluated.
The results show that there are numerous good examples of Moodle use that should be made more visible. At the same time, it became clear that even power users are not yet familiar with many of the platform's learning-enhancing features.
The survey results were presented at the eTeach Annual Conference 2025 and are available for download as a poster below. In the future, power users will also be asked to Talks@eTeach invited and shared their examples on our Good Practice Platform The insights gained are also incorporated into the further development of our qualification program.
