Further training series helps to integrate AI competently into teaching
In its latest report „Die KI-Nutzung in Studium und Lehre“ (Bosse et al. 2026), the Hochschulforum Digitalisierung once again points out the great and not yet fully covered need for didactic support, exchange formats and further training opportunities for teachers. The focus here is on the question of how teaching and learning with AI can succeed at universities.
This is exactly where the eTeach network Thuringia comes in: At regular intervals, it invites you to the free online lecture series „KI@eTeach“. In one-and-a-half-hour events, both basic knowledge and in-depth content on artificial intelligence in university teaching are conveyed with room for discussion and practical exercises.
The series took place for the third time from March 16 to 27, 2026 and set a new record for participation: Over the nine dates, a total of 630 lecturers from the ten Thuringian universities and beyond took part. This year's speakers came from Bauhaus-Universität Weimar, Friedrich Schiller University Jena and Ilmenau University of Technology.
The basic course and the „Writing with generative AI“ event were particularly popular - both attracted around 100 participants. In the basics course, Ludwig Lorenz (eTeach specialist unit for media technology) taught basic terminology, fields of application and how AI works. The event on writing with AI was held by Prof. Dr. Peter Braun, Head of the Writing Center at Friedrich Schiller University Jena: he showed how AI can be used in writing, what pitfalls lurk in the process and how corresponding writing skills can be taught.
Here is a selection of the positive reactions to the previous lecture series:
„Best lecture on the basics of AI that I have ever heard.“ (anonymous feedback on the course „AI Basics“)
„Great workshop, lots of interaction.“ (anonymous feedback on the course „Improving exam tasks with AI“)
„Super event with direct benefits for the upcoming semester.“ (anonymous feedback on the course „Course planning with AI“)
In addition to the lecture series, the 4th AI networking meeting of the eTeach Network Thuringia took place on March 23. The meeting, which brings together lecturers with an interest in the didactic embedding of AI twice a year, once again provided a lively platform for exchange: 40 lecturers from all Thuringian universities discussed the topics of AI as a learning buddy, AI and writing and AI and didactics.
The more than 300 evaluations from participants are currently being analyzed in order to further develop the content of the lecture series and tailor the courses even better to the needs of teachers. The program and date for the next KI@eTeach series will be announced shortly.
